Record-Breaking Yachtsman To Speak At Lakeside Business Briefing
22 July 2010
Record-breaking yachtsman and disability sports ambassador, Geoff Holt MBE, will be the guest speaker at the next Lakeside Business Briefing on 7 September.
Geoff Holt became an inspiration to thousands when he completed his 'Personal Everest' challenge and entered the history books on 5 September 2007. Geoff sailed 1,445 miles, solo, around Great Britain in a fragile 15-foot dinghy. This was hailed a groundbreaking, courageous achievement because Geoff is a passionate yachtsman who uses a wheelchair.
Paralysed from the chest down when he was just 18 years old after a swimming accident, Geoff lives by the mantra of ‘no excuses’ and continues to challenge what seems impossible. In December 2009, Geoff embarked on his next inspirational challenge to sail a 60ft wheelchair-accessible catamaran named ‘Impossible Dream’ across the Atlantic. The 2,700 mile journey took 28 days and Geoff became the first quadriplegic sailor to sail solo across the Atlantic unassisted in every aspect of the sailing.
The Lakeside business briefings are sponsored by 1000 Lakeside, Vail Williams, Handelsbanken and Verisona. For more details or to book a place at the event, call Karen Tyrrell at 1000 Lakeside on 023 9238 9056 or email contact@lakesidebusinessbriefing.com
